Fake Apple Calendar Invite Targeting PayPal Users

This week’s scam involves a deceptive email that looks like a legitimate Apple iCloud Calendar invitation. It’s sent from a real Apple email address and seems to reference a purchase invoice. But when you open the calendar invite and read the notes, you’ll find a disturbing message claiming a large charge has been made to your PayPal account. It also includes a phone number, urging you to call for support.

Don’t be fooled, this is a sophisticated phishing attempt. Scammers have crafted a genuine-looking calendar invite and inserted a fake purchase alert in the notes to create panic. The phone number doesn’t lead to Apple support, it connects you directly to a fraudster. If you call, they’ll try to manipulate you into giving them remote access to your computer, putting your finances and personal data at serious risk.

How to Protect Yourself:

- Treat unexpected calendar invites with caution, especially those referencing urgent purchases.
- Never call phone numbers from unsolicited emails. If you're worried about a transaction, go directly to the official website or app to verify your account activity.
- Avoid interacting with suspicious invites. Accepting or declining them can confirm your email is active. Just delete the message instead.
